- Explain how to avoid caught-in and caught-between hazards
- List safe work practices that can be in place during construction activities where there is a caught-in and caught-between potential for hazards
- Identify methods of controlling a caught-in and caught-between injury
- Overview
On average 1,100 construction workers are fatally injured on the job each year in the United States. Of those fatalities, approximately 10% are related to incidents where the worker was either caught-in or caught-between moving or stationary objects. Because of this frequency, caught-in and caught-between causes are commonly identified as a “Focus Four” hazard along with falls, struck-by and electrocution hazards. The Focus Four hazards are responsible for 70% of all construction fatalities and a large part of non-fatal injuries. While no specific federal workplace regulation or standard exists on this topic, your will receive training and education emphasizing the prevention of caught-in and caught-between injuries. In this course, we will identify how and where caught-in and caught-between hazards exist on construction worksites and the means and methods for controlling those hazards to prevent injury.
